The Educational Testing Service (ETS) administers the Praxis Series. Praxis tests are required for licensure in many states, including Arkansas. Applicants may request that their test results be sent to the Arkansas Department of Education. For information about the Praxis Series and Arkansas requirements for the Praxis, please review the information for Arkansas posted on the ETS Web site. For a testing booklet and information about testing costs, dates, and locations, please visit the ETS Web site. Additionally, registration information for the Praxis exams can be obtained through local colleges or universities. Interested persons may also contact the Office of Professional Licensure at the Arkansas Department of Education.
Praxis I
The Praxis I assessments are basic skills tests: Reading, Writing, Mathematics. They are generally taken before entering, or at the beginning of a teacher preparation program. These tests may be taken as either standard paper tests, or as computer-based tests. For more information visit the ETS Web site or consult your college or university teacher preparation program.
PRAXIS III™
- Is required to convert an Arkansas Provisional or Initial Teaching License to a Standard Teaching License
- Is designed to assess the skills of novice teachers in their own classroom settings
- Uses structured Interviews before and after a classroom observation
- Requires written descriptions of the novice teacher’s class and subject matter
- Will involve direct observation of the teacher’s classroom practices by a trained state certified assessor
