During the 1980's, the State Board of Education adopted the Standards for Accreditation of Arkansas Public Schools. The Standards set the minimum requirements for every public school in the state. The Department has the responsibility of monitoring to ensure that all public schools comply with the Standards. However, through new programs, the ADE constantly encourages the schools to reach beyond the minimums.
