Arkansas Candidate Support Program for National Board Certification

Act 1060 of 2001 as amended by Act 1803 of 2003 authorizes and funds the Arkansas Department of Education to provide a support program for teachers who wish to become National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) by paying the initial application fee for a candidate to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and in other ways. Current Rules and Regulations amplify Act 1060.

The Arkansas Department of Education provides orientations for public school teachers, library media specialists, and school counselors interested in National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) Certification candidacy.

Orientation attendance is required to be available for state or federal application fee assistance. State application funding pays the $2,500 NBPTS application fee. Federal funding, which pays 1/2 the NBPTS application fee ($1,250), is available as well.

PLEASE NOTE: To apply for state funding, applicants must have at least three years of Arkansas public school experience. Years taught with a provisional (one-year) teaching license DO NOT count toward the required three years to apply for state funding only. They DO count toward applying for federal funding and for NBPTS candidacy.
