Arkansas Candidate Support Program for National Board Certification

Act 1060 of 2001 as amended by Act 1803 of 2003 authorizes and funds the Arkansas Department of Education to provide a support program for teachers who wish to become National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) by paying the initial application fee for a candidate to the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and in other ways. Current Rules and Regulations amplify Act 1060.

2010 National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) Support Orientations

The Arkansas Department of Education provides orientations for public school teachers, library media specialists, and school counselors interested in National Board for Professional Teaching Standards candidacy. Orientation attendance is required to receive the applications for FULL STATE FUNDING, which covers the NBPTS application fee ($2,500.00) or HALF FEDERAL FUNDING, which covers half of the NBPTS application fee ($1,250.00).

NOTE: NBPTS candidacy (as well as state and federal funding) requires three years of teaching experience. FULL STATE FUNDING applicants must have at least three years of experience in an Arkansas public school. Years taught with a provisional (one-year) teaching license DO NOT count toward the required three years. These years DO count toward applying for the HALF FEDERAL FUNDING and for NBPTS candidacy.

Due to space limitations, orientation registration is on a first-come basis. If registration reaches maximum capacity, candidates will be able to register for a different session. Available sessions are as follows:
